How Bakersfield hydrovac quotes work

You describe the dig once. Independent Kern County operators read it and quote you directly. We stay out of the middle.

Asking is free. We're the request service, not the crew.

A suction excavator truck parked at the curb with its boom lowered into a street-side dig while two workers watch the hole.
A worker guides a water lance into a hole while a large suction hose clears soil from around an exposed pipe.

A request service, not a hydrovac company

Bakersfield Hydrovac does not own trucks, employ crews or dig. We are a website that collects the details of a job and passes them to independent hydrovac operators who work in Kern County. Those operators are licensed and insured businesses, and they quote you and contract with you directly. Whoever you hire is the one who does the work and answers for it.

Using the service costs you nothing. You are under no obligation to accept a quote, and you can ignore all of them.

What we do with your request

We read each request for the basics operators need: the type of work, where the site is, when you want a crew and a way to reach you. Then we pass it to operators who work in Kern County. If a request is missing something that decides whether anyone can quote, an operator will ask you.

What we cannot do

We cannot check an operator's licence, insurance or workmanship on your behalf, promise a price, or promise that anyone will reach your site by a certain time. Use the checklist below before you hire.

Three steps, no account

Loose job details go in one end. A short list of quotes you can compare comes out the other.

Loose job details on the left are pulled into one request in the middle, then fan out into rows of quotes on the right.
  • Describe

Job type, site, holes or feet of trench, depth if known, 811 ticket status and dates. About two minutes.

  • Match

We read it and send it to operators who cover that part of Kern County and do that kind of work.

  • Compare

Operators contact you with questions, availability and a price. You choose, or you don't. Asking is free.

Comparing quotes

  • Contractor licence. Ask for the licence number and look it up at cslb.ca.gov. Check that it is active and fits the work. We have not confirmed which licence classification hydro excavation falls under, so ask the operator and the Contractors State License Board.
  • Insurance. Ask for a certificate of insurance showing the limits, and name your company or the site owner on it if the job requires it.
  • Workers' compensation. Ask whether the crew is covered, and ask for proof.
  • How they price time. Hourly or daily, the minimum, when the clock starts and stops, and whether travel is billed.
  • Water and disposal. Whether water, slurry hauling and dump fees are in the number or added on. See slurry hauling and disposal.
  • What is left behind. Backfill, patching and cleanup, and who does each.

Who is responsible for what

  • The operator you hire is responsible for the work: the crew, the equipment, their licence and insurance, and safe digging.
  • The 811 ticket is the job of whoever is excavating. Agree with the operator who calls USA North 811 and who holds the ticket. Hydrovac is still excavation, so the ticket comes first. See the FAQ for the notice rules.
  • You know the site: who owns the road, the lease rules, where water and slurry can go. Tell operators what you know.
  • Bakersfield Hydrovac passes your request on. We are not a party to the contract between you and the operator.
