Hydrovac areas around Bakersfield

Send a request from anywhere in Kern County. We pass it to independent operators, and they tell you whether they cover your site.

We're a free quote-request service, not the crew. Which operator can reach your site is their call.

Where we take requests from

13 places

  • Bakersfield

The county seat and its largest city. Street and utility work here often needs a right-of-way permit from the City of Bakersfield, Kern County or Caltrans, depending on who owns the road.

  • Oildale

Directly north of Bakersfield across the Kern River, so a job here is usually a short trip from the city.

  • Shafter

Northwest of Bakersfield in farm country. Irrigation lines, wells and buried power on ag ground are common reasons to expose a line first.

  • Wasco

Northwest of Shafter, in the same farm belt, where older lines may not appear on any map.

  • McFarland

On SR 99 between Wasco and Delano. Include the cross streets or parcel so operators can judge the drive.

  • Delano

In the north of the county near the Tulare County line. It is a longer haul from Bakersfield, so travel will show in quotes.

  • Lamont

Southeast of Bakersfield on the valley floor. Farm and utility crossings are the usual underground concerns.

  • Arvin

Southeast of Bakersfield at the foot of the Tehachapi Mountains. Ag water and buried power are the lines to ask about.

  • Taft

West of Bakersfield in the county's west-side oil country, where leases are crossed by flowlines and gathering pipe. See oilfield and pipeline hydrovac.

  • Tehachapi

In the mountains southeast of Bakersfield on SR 58. Say how steep or rocky the site is when you describe the job.

  • Lake Isabella

In the Kern River Valley, northeast of Bakersfield. An edge location: coverage depends on which operators make the trip.

  • Ridgecrest

Far to the east, on the edge of Kern County. Ask early, since the drive is long and will show on the quote.

  • Frazier Park

In the mountains at the county's southern edge near I-5. Like Ridgecrest, coverage depends on who will travel.

What shapes a Kern job

  • Oil and gas. Leases, flowlines and gathering pipe, often down dirt roads with gates or escorts.
  • Agriculture. Irrigation mains, wells and buried power on farm ground.
  • Utilities. Gas, power, water, sewer and fiber, in streets and easements.
  • Road and water construction. Public works, with prevailing wage and insurance paperwork.

The ground under Bakersfield is deep alluvial soil of sand, silt and lean clay, and clay layers usually cut more slowly than sand. Out in the foothills the soil and the access can change, so describe the site.

Edge towns and the 811 call

For towns at the edge of the county, such as Ridgecrest, Frazier Park or Lake Isabella, coverage depends on which operators will make the trip. Say so in your request and expect travel on the quote.

Wherever the site is in Kern County, the one-call center is USA North 811, and the same notice rules apply. Use the 811 planner to work out your call window.
